Donald Cole is Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Counsel for Fidelity National Title Group (FNTG). Donald's numerous responsibilities include setting national underwriting policies and overseeing underwriting activities for the FNTG family of companies. He has also served on the ALTA Forms Committee for over 10 years.
From 1998 – 1999, Donald served as Regional Counsel for the National Title Services division of Fidelity National Title's legal office in Irvine, Calif., where he was in charge of underwriting on a national basis for commercial transactions.
Prior to joining Fidelity National, Donald was Regional Vice President for Special Counsel, a legal staffing company based in Jacksonville, Fla., where he was responsible for 15 offices throughout the eastern U.S. He was also a Regional Underwriting Counsel for Commonwealth Land Title Company and Transamerica Title Insurance Company based in its Atlanta regional office. Before that, he served as Assistant Division Underwriting Counsel for Commonwealth Land Title in Florida.
Donald began his legal career in private practice working with developers of residential, commercial and timeshare projects in Florida. He also worked in the tax department of two national public accounting companies: Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) and Peat Marwick (now KPMG). Donald is a frequent speaker at training sessions for FNTG's underwriters and at several bar associations on real estate issues, and has authored many articles relating to the title industry. He is a member of the Florida, Georgia and Mississippi Bars and is a former Certified Public Accountant.
Donald earned his B.A. in accounting from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla., and his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.
